HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), inaugurated the ‘Innovation Hub on Wheels’ at DEWA Head Office, in collaboration with Schneider Electric. DEWA hosts the event during its Innovation Week as part of the ‘UAE Innovation Month’. This reflects its ongoing efforts to foster a culture of innovation as a key to expanding future horizons, and enhancing its leading role in spreading knowledge and sharing experiences in innovation.

DEWA displays the Innovation Hub on Wheels to introduce stakeholders to Schneider’s open structure (EcoStruxure) for smart cities, with state-of-the-art technologies that focus on transportation, oil and gas, data centres and services.

“DEWA is committed to participating in the UAE Innovation Month, which was announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, with the theme, ‘Innovation starts with you’. It aims to make the UAE one of the most innovative countries in the world, and to continue the journey of success achieved by UAE Innovation Week since its launch. The inauguration of ‘Innovation on Wheels’ with Schneider Electric is a reflection of fruitful collaboration and effective partnership between the public and private sector. This supports our commitment to spreading creativity and innovation, as well as introducing the latest innovations in energy, water, smart cities, services and technology," said Al Tayer.

“We aim to achieve the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to make Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world. We continuously seek to build effective partnerships and enhance cooperation, share best practices and global experiences, and experience with the world’s leading organisations, especially in energy management and automation, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Open and Big Data, cloud computing, smart grids and other innovations of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and disruptive technologies. This is part of our efforts to develop the best services and smart applications to reach the highest international standards,” added Al Tayer.

Al Tayer highlighted that DEWA has a strong strategic relationship with the world’s leading companies amidst the Fourth Industrial Revolution and use of disruptive technologies. This supports the global trend towards smart cities and enhancing sustainability especially in energy.

"We look forward to more accomplishments. This supports the objectives of the UAE Centennial 2071, and the Dubai 10X initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, which is set to propel Dubai towards a better future, for generations to come," added Al Tayer.

“Through Innovation on Wheels, Schneider Electric introduced the latest EcoStruxure solutions and applications for city and network management. Schneider Electric is DEWA’s key partner for innovation, and specialises in the digital connectivity of smart cities and smart grids. Its technical solutions and applications are characterised by comprehensive cyber security as well as the uniqueness of its products with IoT technology. The journey of cooperation has led to the  implementation of several successful projects in the field of energy and water management to modernise and improve work, and enhance energy efficiency. This contributes to enhancing the green and sustainable development process in Dubai, and making the Emirate the smartest and most innovative city in the world,” said Hanan Darwish, President of Schneider Electric for the Gulf and Pakistan.

DEWA’s efforts contributed to making the UAE, represented by DEWA, first in the world for getting electricity, as per the World Bank’s Doing Business 2018 report. The rate of DEWA’s smart services adoption reached 85.9%, while customer happiness reached 97% in 2017. In line with the Dubai 10X initiative, DEWA recently launched ‘DEWA Digital’, the digital arm of DEWA, to reimagine the concept of service organisations, and create a new digital future for Dubai. This model will disrupt the entire business of public utilities by becoming the world’s first digital utility, using autonomous systems for renewable-energy and its storage, expand the use of AI and provide digital services,” concluded Al Tayer.
