The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Centre for Responsible Business and Dulsco recently hosted a workshop at the Chamber’s premises which highlighted sustainability best practices that are being implemented within Dubai.

The event brought together over 40 local and global industry experts who discussed a wide range of topics, from employee engagement in recycling to food waste. Panelists included representatives from Dulsco, Farnek, Expo 2020, European Sustainability Academy, and German waste management firm Black Forest Solutions.

The initiative was organized by Dubai Chamber Sustainability Network’s Task Group on Waste Management and Resource Efficiency which is headed by Dulsco. One of the key themes under the Dubai Plan 2021 is building a smart and sustainable city. The strategic plan places a major focus on managing Dubai’s future growth, ensuring the availability of clean energy sources, and protecting natural resources such as soil, water, and air.

Following the event, S. Madhumohan, Director of Environmental Solutions at Dulsco said: “We recognize that public-private sector collaboration is the most effective way to help achieve this vision, and enhance Dubai’s reputation as a foremost leader in sustainability solutions, both regionally and globally. We know that results require joint efforts, which is why we believe some of the best practice presentations and debates we have had today will go a long way towards achieving those results.”

For his part, Dr. Belaid Rettab, Senior Director, Economic Research and Sustainable Business Development Sector, Dubai Chamber, highlighted the active role that the Chamber plays in facilitating collaboration between Dubai’s public and private sectors and encouraging businesses to adopt their own sustainability policies and practices.

“These events and workshops provide an ideal platform for key stakeholders to collaborate and align their efforts in a way that can support Dubai’s strategic plans and maximize their positive impact on society. We look forward to seeing many more organisations take part and share their insights and experiences,” Dr. Rettab added.

The event was held as a part of Open Source Circular Economy (OSCE) Days – a global initiative that involved hosting and connecting open events in various cities at the same time. As part of this initiative, experts, enthusiasts and innovators from across the globe worked together to exchange ideas and solutions, prototyping systems, products and designs for an Open Source Circular Economy.
