Hilton Ras Al Khaimah Resort & Spa triumph in local Hotel & Hospitality Sustainability event

Hilton Ras Al Khaimah Resort & Spa have recently taken home two awards related to sustainable tourism and waste management from the annual Hotel and Hospitality Sustainability event.

The event, which took place in September, was attended by H.E. Eng. Ahmad Mohamed Al Hammadi, Director General of Public Services Department of Ras Al Khaimah, Eng. Sonia Nasser- Executive Director of Waste Management Agency at Ras Al Khaimah and Haitham Mattar, CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority along with Ras Al Khaimah’s hotel representatives, Green Ambassadors and government entities who are directly involved in the Emirate’s sustainability agenda.

The event agenda highlighted the latest updates in the recycling waste management initiatives set for the Emirate, shared best practices and key learnings in this sector, and announced the new targets and criteria planned for next year that will serve the overall goals of the Emirate.

During the event Hilton Ras Al Khaimah Resort & Spa were proudly presented with awards by Mr. Ahmed Al Hammadi, Director General of RAKPSD and Mr. Haittam Mattar, CEO of RAKTDA for the best Large Green Hotel in Ras Al Khaimah and scoring an impressive 92% in an audit for source segregation, cleanliness training and awareness of all staff on sustainability practices.

“We are delighted to be recognised for our ongoing efforts in recycling and green initiatives across our resort complex,” said Helen Jacobe, General Manager, Hilton Ras Al Khaimah Resort & Spa.

“Most notably are our hard workers who consistently drive awareness of this important subject on a daily basis. Our back-office team has helped drive this initiative to all corners of our property, and for that we are truly grateful.”

In 2016, the concerned government bodies of Ras Al Khaimah, comprising RAKTDA, Public Service Department in Ras Al Khaimah, represented by RAK Waste Management Agency, collaborated to launch new waste management standards for hotels and tourism establishments across the Emirate. As H.E Eng. Ahmad Mohamed Al Hammadi said: “This is indeed an important occasion for all of us involved in public environmental issues because it allows us to draw the attention of the hospitality sector yet again to one of the most important concern in modern times.”
