The importance of recycling bottles

Americans buy an estimated 36 billion single-serving plastic water bottles each year. Almost eight out of ten end up in a landfill or incinerator. Hundreds of millions end up as litter on roads and beaches or in streams and other waterways.

It takes almost 17 billion barrels of oil to produce these bottles. And it takes 0.1 liter of fuel per liter to distribute these bottles locally. International distribution is almost 5-20 times higher.

Every 8 out of 10 bottles end up in landfills. It takes 450 years for plastic bottles to degrade!
