The impact of green policies hold a significant importance more so than ever before.

Greenomics 2011 provided public and private entities with the ideal opportunity to unite and determine green policies which can be integrated into environmental corporate responsibility. As in the previous three versions, this year saw the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water (MoEW) and LG Electronics join forces to create an open discussion regarding environmental threats and issues arising from the carbon emissions.

The annual conference, now in its fourth year, was born out of LG Electronics determination to identify environmental issues while finding practical solutions that will lead to positive changes in all aspects of life. In addition, Greenomics is dedicated to ensure that governments, environmental experts, businesses and individuals become more environmentally responsible across the UAE in a cost-efficient manner.

Greenomics is part of LG's overarching environmental management strategy that looks to rationalize energy consumption in homes by introducing a full range of innovative and greener products and services.

This year's Greenomics focused on examining the issues, principles and guidelines needed to develop carbon reduction strategies to reduce the carbon footprint in the energy sector with regards to power generation including non-conventional and renewable energy sources. The key initiatives that arose during the conference were to ensure that practical and realistic solutions are developed in order to reduce the damages implemented onto the environment.

With an impressive panel of experts, top government delegates and key local and international business heads, the half-day conference resulted in an insightful understanding of critical environmental measures that work to increase productivity, profitability, competitiveness while improving environmental and energy performances. As a result, Greenomics 2011 received an attendance from over 150 high level attendees ranging from industry and thought leaders, government entities, business conglomerates, environmental specialists, blue chip companies and academia, among others.

This year, LG has been awarded the prestigious LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and Green Building Certification Institution (GBCI) for our facilities in the Jebel Ali Free Zone, making it the first company in the Middle East to receive such an award for multiple buildings like warehouses and offices. The benefits include 21.5% energy savings, 31.8% potable water savings, and a 91.7% diversion of construction waste from landfills, highlighting the long term commitment LG is investing into reducing our carbon emissions in the region.

Mr. Ki Wan Kim, President of LG Electronics Middle East and Africa added; "We are all becoming more aware of our responsibility to protect and preserve our environment; to reduce waste and find and use alternative and more sustainable resources. At LG, we believe in the importance of community and business support, and that if we all work together we will be able to put clear goals to tackle the ecological footprint we face in the UAE. We acknowledge that collectively, we have to make some hard and fast decisions and take action now."
