Earth Hour isn't just an hour dedicated to temporary change, it is a call for a more sustainable lifestyle to save the planet. Majid Al Futtaim encourages residents and tourists to continue reducing their carbon footprint even after Earth Hour. In fact, it doesn't need to be big changes, every small step counts.

Turn off your lights when not needed, reduce your water consumption by taking shorter showers, not letting the faucet run while cleaning vegetables and planting more trees and creating green spaces to offset carbon emissions.

And, to drive home the message of green living, Majid Al Futtaim malls across the country distributed "seed pencils" to visitors during Earth Hour. When these pencils become too short to write with, they can be planted in soil and the seeds in them will grow, serving as a reminder to make sustainable living a lifestyle.

After Earth Hour: Small Steps, Big Impact

Majid Al Futtaim leads by example and has taken efforts over the years to reduce its carbon footprint and aims to become net positive in water consumption and carbon emissions by 2040.

It recently surveyed 7,000 shoppers in the UAE and Oman about key environmental issues. 78 per cent of participants said they were concerned about water consumption, with water shortage ranking as the most significant concern, above climate change and energy usage. This year, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) achieves record energy savings of 323MW during Earth Hour, equivalent to reducing 140 tonnes of carbon emissions, and is 32 per cent higher than last year’s savings.
