Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, is preparing to host the 8th International District Energy Association (IDEA)’s District Cooling Conference 2018 for the 3rd year. The conference will be held from 9 to 11 December 2018, at Atlantis The Palm, Dubai. Participants can now register to attend the Conference at dedicated web page of the IDEA
Empower invited pioneers in the district cooling sector to participate in the conference held under the slogan ‘Effective Energy for Smarter Cities’, which aims to shed light on various developments in district cooling systems and projects. The conference is an opportunity to share experiences and practices on innovative solutions in district cooling. It also reflects the role of the UAE in supporting sustainable development in the region and the world, and its efforts in district cooling, which has become an essential part of planning and designing modern buildings, especially in areas with warmer climates.
As part of hosting the conference, Empower has started to mobilise logistics and operations including preparing its plant room in Palm Jumeirah Crescent to welcome international delegations participating in the event. The delegates will be visiting this plant as part of the technical tour on the last day of the Conference.

Hosting this conference for the third time in Dubai reflects the Emirate’s success in protecting the environment and combating climate change using innovative district cooling systems and solutions. The UAE utilizes district cooling to prepare to face the future, in line with the sustainable development goals, the UAE Vision 2021, and the UAE National Agenda,” said Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.
“The conference will promote the concept of smart cities. It will also focus on energy efficiency in smart cities, the role of district cooling systems in conserving natural resources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The event will include workshops and lectures, in addition to the accompanying tradeshow, which reviews the most advanced district cooling solutions, and a technical tour to Empower plant in Palm Jumeirah Crescent” added Bin Shafar.
The delegates will also visit the Atlantis Hotel’s District Cooling Energy Transfer Station set up for the iconic Aquarium that houses thousands of marine animals, and filtration room, showcasing how the district cooling serves to maintain the Aquarium with its temperature requirements of various species. The Atlantis Aquarium is first-of-its kind, using district cooling served by Empower.
Empower hosted the IDEA Annual Conference & Tradeshow in 2014 and 2016. Empower won the honour of hosting the IDEA Conference for the third time , at the 109th IDEA Annual Conference & Tradeshow, in USA.
