Dr. Mattar Hamed Al Neyadi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Industry, led a UAE delegation at the Hydrogen Energy Ministerial Meeting hosted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Energy in Japan in which 21 countries are participating.

In his opening speech during the Ministerial Meeting, Al Niyadi highlighted the Energy Strategy 2050 launched by the UAE in 2017, where it seeks to produce 50 percent of electricity via the use of renewable energy sources.

He said that the technologies depending on hydrogen could be part of the solution to the global energy challenges faced by the world today, as it presents solutions to the challenges of energy storage and stability of the electricity transport networks and in reducing emissions.

The Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Industry noted that hydrogen is produced from natural gas, solar energy, and nuclear energy and they are all available in the UAE, which could produce and export hydrogen in the future.

Al Niyadi stressed the importance of cooperation between countries and research centres on strengthening hydrogen technologies as an energy source and providing solutions to the current challenges.

The UAE delegation included Khalid Omran Al Ameri, UAE Ambassador to Japan, and Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Director of the Office of the Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Industry.
