This 'Green Story' is best told in the words of it's founder, Carol Powell.

"I live on a farm in rural Herefordshire, England with my husband Neil and two young children. We live in a wonderful old farmhouse surrounded by mixed livestock and arable ground and Re-jigged is run from an old oak beamed granary on the side of the farmhouse.

I have always been passionate about fashion design. I learnt to sew when I was very young and at five years old I made dolls clothes engineered from scraps of fabrics and tried to sell them in a local sweet shop! Whilst I was at school, I took a Saturday job working in a fabric shop in Leominster and when I left school I worked for a local interior designer. Both jobs gave me great experience in cutting fabrics and making clothes. In the years since, I have gained a reputation for designing beautiful bespoke, made-to-measure bridal gowns and one-off evening dresses.

The idea for Re-jigged was initially inspired by clothing that I had made for my daughter that I had crafted out of an old jumper with holes in the sleeve and a favourite shirt that I couldn’t bear to throw out. My re-jigged garments were noticed by other mums who all wanted to know where I had bought the outfits. It dawned on me that all old clothing could be resurrected to make beautiful, designer garments, embellished with exquisite buttons and ribbons, using contrasting colours and fabrics, and hence the idea for Re-jigged was born.

Before launching, I spoke to lots of national charities to source unwanted, un-useable garments, I wanted clothes that were damaged and of no use to charity shops and eventually decided to support local causes. I now work in conjunction with ‘St Michaels Hospice’ in Hereford and other surrounding local communities. I wanted to give something back to those that support me, so in return for clothing donations, for every garment that I sell, Re-jigged donates money back to charities, schools and groups.

Re-jigged is so exciting. I love receiving new bags of other people pre-loved clothing, all I can see are the fabulous combinations of colours and fabrics that can be pieced together, into classic designs, that create stylish garments that are beautifully made and that can be handed down from one generation to the next.

I also find it very inspiring knowing that I am ‘helping save the planet’ by using clothes locally sourced that would often go for landfill. Also, by setting up Re-jigged there is local British employment being created and if customers buy Re-jigged clothes that means less clothes being imported from around the world. The other plus is that Re-jigged is giving something back to the community, by donating money back to charities and schools and offering opportunities to disadvantaged people by helping create a feeling of wellbeing within this group.

Alongside Re-jigged Clothes I would love to help inspire young children to sew and make clothes, and to enjoy it like I did when I was young. To encourage creativity within the next generation, teaching them the values of recycling and creating new out of old would be a very satisfying goal to achieve in my lifetime."
