The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) today signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Etihad Energy Services Company (Etihad ESCO) to boost sustainability in the public and private sector.

His Excellency Eng Saif Mohamed AlShara, Assistant Undersecretary for the Sustainable Communities Sector at MOCCAE, and His Excellency Ali Mohammed Al Jassim, CEO of Etihad ESCO, signed the agreement in the presence of His Excellency Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment.

Speaking on the signing, His Excellency Eng AlShara said that the MoU aligns with the joint commitment of the two parties to achieving the UAE Vision 2021 and implementing the UAE Green Agenda 2015-2030.

He added: “In accordance with the directives of our visionary leadership, MOCCAE is keen to promote cooperation in integrating sustainability in the public and private sector. The Ministry also seeks to involve UAE businesses in the diverse supply chain of financial institutions and technology service providers across the enterprise development stages.”

For his part, His Excellency Ali Mohammed Al Jassim said: “We are dedicated to implementing green projects in line with the government directives and contributing to achieving the UAE Green Agenda 2015-2030 in partnership with MOCCAE.”

Under the MoU, MOCCAE and Etihad ESCO seek to encourage the implementation of sustainability principles and adoption of relevant global best practices in the public and private sector through exchanging knowledge and experience, as well as raising awareness of successful business practices.

The two parties aim to identify the key elements of success and enhance mechanisms of data collection and information exchange in climate change and green development. In addition, they plan to promote partnerships in creating and applying innovative and sustainable solutions for the conservation of natural resources, and ensuring consistency between sustainability strategies and policies.

MOCCAE and Etihad ESCO have also agreed to prepare sustainability-related reports and other documents and to enhance the level of scientific knowledge on various environmental issues among the stakeholders. Furthermore, they seek to support national and international collaboration in developing smart technologies related to climate change and green development.
