As the global community comes together to mark Plastic Free July, ALKEMY – the world’s first and only independent carbon-neutral salon – invites its guests to experience a different kind of indulgence: one rooted in sustainability, spiritual-luxury, and intentional beauty.

Located in iconic destinations such as Atlantis The Royal, Atlantis The Palm, and One Za’abeel, ALKEMY is redefining what it means to be beautiful in a time of climate awareness. More than just a sanctuary of transformation, ALKEMY is a movement – leading the beauty industry into a new era where carbon-neutral operations and plastic-free practices are just as essential as the treatments themselves.

"Plastic Free July is the perfect reminder that every choice matters – from the products we use to the way we power our salons," says Abdul Nassani, Founder of ALKEMY and visionary behind the brand’s sustainability-first philosophy. "Our mission is to prove that luxury and responsibility are not mutually exclusive."

A World First in Carbon-Neutral Beauty

In partnership with sustainability experts Plan A, ALKEMY conducted a rigorous audit of its operations based on the GHG Protocol Accounting Method, covering emissions from electricity use, purchased goods, waste, employee commutes, and fugitive emissions. Through strategic initiatives across sourcing, energy use, and staff training, ALKEMY reduced its carbon emissions by 77.78% between 2023 and 2024 – achieving full carbon neutrality across its operations.

This achievement is certified annually by TÜV Rheinland and sets a new global benchmark in salon sustainability. With data-driven decarbonisation at its core, ALKEMY continues to eliminate harmful waste streams and prioritise clean, traceable beauty products that minimise environmental harm.

Aligned with Plastic Free July, ALKEMY continues to phase out single-use plastics and non-recyclable packaging from all client-facing operations. From refillable haircare stations to biodegradable packaging, every element of the ALKEMY experience is designed with intention – offering guests a truly sustainable beauty ritual without compromise.

Signature treatments, such as the Hair Glow Treatment and Japanese Deep Hair Restoration, are delivered with eco-friendly tools and products that honour both planet and person. Even signature touches – from energy-cleansing scent rituals to palo santo closing ceremonies – speak to a deeper harmony that balances inner and outer beauty.

Supporting the UAE’s Vision for a Greener Future

ALKEMY’s environmental commitment directly supports the UAE’s National Agenda for Sustainability, which outlines bold ambitions for a low-carbon, circular economy. With the country accelerating its path toward net-zero emissions by 2050, ALKEMY is proud to contribute as a homegrown innovation that aligns luxury beauty with climate action.

"We see ourselves not just as a salon, but as part of a national and global responsibility," Nassani adds. "With the major auditing milestone now complete, 2025 marks the beginning of our offsetting journey which is a significant achievement for an independent salon. We might be a relatively small group, but we believe that every business in our sector can play a positive role in wider sustainability initiatives. ALKEMY reflects the values of the UAE’s sustainability goals and inspires conscious living from the inside out."

As consumers become increasingly mindful of their ecological footprint, ALKEMY leads the way as a destination for beauty that heals, transforms, and respects the planet. During this Plastic Free July, it invites all guests to join the journey – one ritual at a time.
