Under the esteemed patronage of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and in collaboration with key municipal and governmental partners across the nation and in strategic association with the Fujairah Natural Resources Corporation, the 24thcycle of the Clean UAE campaign, organised by the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) reached its 2nd station – the Emirate of Fujairah on Monday, 8th December.
Against the backdrop of Fujairah’s striking natural landscapes, the campaign once again demonstrated the power of community engagement and environmental stewardship. Covering an expansive area of three kilometers, a dedicated team of 250 participants came together—united in their commitment to protecting the UAE’s unique environment. Outfitted with specially designed cotton T-shirts, caps, cotton gloves and biodegradable garbage bags, participants worked collectively to remove 3,272 kilograms of waste, in addition to 100 kg of plastic and 200 kg of scrap metal. Volunteers also took part in the crucial task of segregating recyclables from the general waste, ensuring that all recoverable materials were redirected to local recycling facilities for proper processing and reuse.
Welcoming participants, Dr. Habiba Al Mar’ashi, Co-founder and Chairperson of EEG, delivered an inspiring address, stating:“The Clean UAE campaign continues to stand as the flagship national sustainability initiative that strengthens the culture of environmental responsibility and community action across the country. Year after year, we witness remarkable participation that reinforces the UAE’s commitment to sustainability. As an accredited organisation of the United Nations Environment Programme and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, EEG remains dedicated to contributing meaningfully to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”
She further added:
“The value of the Clean UAE campaign lies far beyond waste collection. It is a comprehensive awareness movement that promotes collective responsibility and positive behavioural change. Protecting our environment is a shared duty and through this initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to preserving the UAE’s natural beauty and environmental heritage. We call upon all sectors of the society to join these efforts to ensure a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable future for generations to come.”
