Earth Hour represents an annual milestone reaffirming that sustainability in Abu Dhabi is not merely an environmental commitment, but an integrated ecosystem powered by technology and innovation, ensuring security of supply, service reliability, and long-term resilience.
At the Department of Energy, we are redefining the management of energy and water through advanced digital solutions, including AD.WE, our AI-powered platform, which enables demand optimisation, consumption forecasting, and real-time system efficiency across theEmirate.
The Abu Dhabi Energy and Water Efficiency Strategy 2030 continues to deliver strong results. Since its launch, it has achieved annual savings of approximately 9.3 terawatt-hours of electricity and 330 million cubic metres of water, while reducing carbon emissions by around 4.7 million tons annually. This reflects a tangible shift toward a more efficient and sustainable system.
This transformation is part of a broader vision to build an integrated energy system combining nuclear energy through the Barakah plant, expanded solar capacity, and advanced infrastructure, including smart grids, storage solutions, and electric mobility platforms such as ‘Barq’, strengthening the emirate’s readiness for a low-carbon future.
At the same time,we are embedding a culture of sustainability as a shared societal responsibility through Demand Side Management programs and conservation initiatives, making efficient energy and water use part of everyday behaviour for individuals and institutions, supported by data and smart incentives.
We invite everyone to participate in Earth Hour not as a symbolic one-hour gesture, but as a daily commitmentdriven by awareness and technology to ensure the sustainability of our resources, strengthen our economic competitiveness, and protect our environment for future generations.
