Forbes Middle East has named H.E. Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation PJSC (Empower), among its Sustainability Leaders in the Energy and Utilities sector across the Middle East, in recognition of his contributions to advancing sustainability efforts and practices in the region.
Bin Shafar was recognised among 145 leaders representing 17 sectors for their role in driving the sustainability agenda across the Middle East. The UAE topped the list with 75 entries, representing leaders based in the country, reaffirming the country’s leadership in sustainability and its firm commitment to supporting initiatives and practices that contribute to sustainable development.
The recognition comes at a time when companies across the Middle East are increasingly embedding sustainability into their core business operations rather than treating it as a separate agenda. This shift is being driven by the wider adoption of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and automation. These tools enhance the ability to monitor and optimise energy consumption, water usage, and emissions. These technologies support more efficient resource utilisation and contribute to reducing the environmental impact of operational activities..
“This recognition underscores the importance of continuing to integrate sustainability across all aspects of our operations and developing innovative solutions that enhance energy efficiency and optimise resource utilisation. At Empower, we believe that the deployment of advanced technologies and innovation are fundamental to the development of the district cooling sector and supporting efforts to reduce carbon emissions and strengthen environmental sustainability,” said H.E. Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.
“We remain committed to continuously enhancing our operations and adopting best practices and technologies that enhance performance efficiency and support the transition towards a more sustainable future. We also believe that achieving sustainability goals requires integrated efforts across sectors, alongside continued investment in solutions that deliver long-term environmental, social and economic value,” he added.
Bin Shafar’s inclusion on the Forbes Middle East list underscores the vital role of the district cooling sector in supporting energy efficiency and sustainability objectives. The recognition also reflects Empower’s commitment to continuously developing its services, improving operational efficiency, and leveraging innovation and advanced technologies to support the UAE’s and Dubai’s sustainable development ambitions and climate action goals.
