Acer Middle East is proud to announce the results of its ‘EMEA Recycling Campaign’ which saw the company encourage its employees to donate their e-waste, such as notebooks, desktops, monitors and smartphones in order to raise funds for a charitable organisation. The initiative was a huge success which saw Acer Middle East accumulate a total of 420 kg worth of recycled electronics. For each recycled item, the company was credited by its Headquarters and as a result earned them two Chromebooks. In addition to the Chromebooks, Acer then locally donated four 2-in-1 Windows tablets and two projectors to its chosen charity – the Dubai Autism Centre (DAC), a non-profit organisation serving children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
The ‘EMEA Recycling Campaign’ is in-line with Acer’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy which encourages companies to not only be transparent, but also be supportive towards social, cultural and environmental issues. As part of the campaign, Acer’s Headquarters donated more than 35 Chromebooks to educational charities across 10 institutions in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
“This campaign is very close to our hearts and we wanted our employees to play their role in respecting the planet and doing small, daily actions that can have a significant impact on the environment as well as give something back to our community,” said Paul Collins, MEA General Manager at Acer. “We chose Dubai Autism Centre as a testament to the great work the charity does in integrating children with Autism into the community and its focused efforts to create social awareness about Autism. We firmly believe we must do our best to ensure a positive future to the planet, and we are sure that investing in education is a powerful mean to reach this goal.”
DAC was founded in 2001 with the issuance of a decree from Ruler of Dubai with the aim of providing a better life for children with Autism in the UAE. They provide comprehensive and specialised services to children with Autism maintaining international standards. With the provision of Specialist Services, outreach programs and promoting awareness, DAC is able to focus its attention and efforts on a clear vision – to be a centre of excellence for those they serve.
The centre also focuses its efforts on providing various educational and therapeutic services to its students; where each student has an Individual Education Plans (IEP’s) forming the basis of intervention required. Assessments by special educators and therapists together with parents are regularly reviewed and adjusted to meet the needs of each student.
