Recognized for their exceptional commitment to sustainable technology for the second time in a row, leading on-demand fuel delivery and vehicle services platform, CAFUwas awarded with the ‘Silver Innovation in Sustainable Technologies’ award at the fifth edition of the Gulf Sustainability and CSR Awards2021.

CAFU unveiled the successful progress of the Ghaf Tree project since their commitment in November 2020 to plant one million Ghaf tree seeds in the UAE,using CAFU’s custom built drone technology and ground-breaking seedball germination process at the awards. This project was initiated by the Founder and CEO of CAFU, Rashid Al Ghurair, in a bid to fight climate change and ultimately give back to the planet and our future generations.

Nabra Al Busaidi, Sustainability and Community Manager at CAFU said "We are absolutely delighted to have come amongst the top three companies at the Gulf Sustainability Awards for the second time in a row. It is a real privilege to lead this work and witness the advancements we have made on the GhafTree project in collaboration with our research partner, the UAE University. As a responsible business, CAFU is committed to playing an active role in contributing to a more sustainable community and world, and it is an honour to be recognised for our efforts.

Last year, the team at CAFU went through a rigorous R&D process to identify the optimal seedball ingredients to support germination of the Ghaf seed in the harsh desert landscape. This shed light on requirements such as depth of planting as well as the seedball mixture.

CAFU’s team of engineers and technology experts have designed and developed a pioneering in-house pressurised air mechanism built into the drone, which shoots the seedballs to the required depth, whilst geotagging the location to allow for monitoring of germination progress. So far, the team have undergone two rounds of planting in the Mleiha Desert and expect germination over the coming months.

This initiative is part of the CAFU sustainability deal where, asa responsible business, CAFU has aligned itself with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and is set to fuel efforts towards lowering carbon emissions and ultimately reaching their goal of being a carbon neutral company.
