Dubai Electricity and Water Authority showcased several of its remarkable clean and renewable energy projects during its participation at the 21st edition of the Arab Media Forum (AMF). DEWA was the Sustainability Partner of this year’s event, which was organised by Dubai Press Club (DPC) under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Among the prominent initiatives highlighted by DEWA was the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, recognised as the world’s largest single-site solar park, utilising the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. The project is slated to achieve a production capacity of 5,000 megawatts (MW) by 2030, employing both solar photovoltaic panels and concentrated solar power, with a total investment of AED50 billion. Upon completion, the solar park is expected to annually reduce carbon emissions by 6.5 million tonnes. Additionally, DEWA’s participation featured a panel discussion titled ‘Youth and Climate Change,’ in which young engineers from the organisation elaborated on DEWA’s endeavours to prepare and empower youth to assume their roles in climate action and contribute to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

The DEWA team that participated in the session included Maryam Khansaheb, Manager – Corporate Sustainability; Jamal Alsabt, Senior Engineer – Climate Change and Sustainability; and Athbeh Al Shehhi, Senior Engineer – Climate Change and Sustainability at DEWA. During the session, they shed light on DEWA’s various activities, programmes, and initiatives aimed at empowering young individuals to take the lead in climate action.
