Hyatt Centric Jumeirah Dubai, Hyatt’s newest luxury lifestyle hotel in the city, puts sustainability well and truly in the spotlight. Nestled in the heart of Dubai, within the prime location La Mer, the property shares how sustainability has been front and center of the guest experience since opening in December 2021.
Guests are encouraged to use several sustainable, plant based, biodegradable, and recyclable products provided in the property. The products range from plant-based Al Ain water bottles made of cornstarch and sugar cane base, compostable coffee capsules, paper straws and takeaway coffee cups made from plant-based materials.
Contributing to the care of our environment through energy saving practices, the hotel’s design includes solar panels and advanced heat recovery technology which heats the water through the air conditioning chillers. The property also utilizes sustainable kitchen equipment from Energy star, a program by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy, which saves up to 50% energy.
At the same time, the hotel focuses on reducing waste across its operations, including food waste and single-use items. For example, refillable shampoo and conditioner dispensers are placed in the guest rooms, refillable glass bottles are used in the restaurants, and from a hotel team perspective, each member is provided with their own reusable drinking bottles once they join, to reduce the usage of paper cups and plastic waste.
The hotel’s sustainability approach is in line with Hyatt’s global Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) platform, World of Care. The company recently published its 2021 World of Care Highlights and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) Report to demonstrate how Hyatt is advancing care for the planet, people and responsible business. Last year, the company received approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) on its 2030 science-based target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and Hyatt remains diligent in promoting initiatives that support progress toward these targets, which focus on energy conservation, efficient technology, building automation systems, advancing sustainable design considerations and more.
As Hyatt works to advance environmental action, the company will continue to have an important focus on increasing the number of properties that have on-site solar panels or are using one-hundred percent renewable electricity. Ongoing property efforts, including the sustainable initiatives in place at Hyatt Centric Jumeirah Dubai, are also critical in achieving the company’s 2030 targets.
