The Galleria Al Maryah Island, in collaboration with the Emirates Environmental Group, advances its sustainability initiatives with the successful planting of 3,000 Acacia and Ghaf trees as part of the lifestyle destination’s“Embrace Nature, Inspire Change” campaign.

The tree planting event took place on 08 March 2024 atAlsamha School in Abu Dhabi. These newly planted trees, integral to the campaign’s environmental objectives, are projected to take between three to five years to reach maturity. Through this endeavour, the equivalent of approximately 17.69 metric tonnes of CO2 absorption is anticipated, contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions.

Mark Ruffley, CEO of Al Maryah Retail Company says: “In our journey towards sustainability, the planting of these 3,000 Acacia and Ghaf trees signifies a collective effort to enrich our community and safeguard our environment. Together, with the Abu Dhabi community we aim to inspire a greener, more vibrant community for all.”

The Ghaf tree thrives remarkably in desert conditions, serving as a profound historical and cultural symbol of stability and peace in the UAE’s desert landscape. Additionally, the Acacia tree boasts a distinct feature in its water-conserving leaves, making it exceptionally well-adapted to arid environments.

The plantation process is meticulously designed to employ sustainable water systems, notably incorporating drip irrigation. This innovative method ensures efficient water delivery directly to the roots of the trees, significantly reducing water usage and evaporation. This sustainable approach emphasizes the commitment to eco-friendly practices.
