Ahmed Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, stressed that celebrating World Energy Day, endorsed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, was adopted by representatives of 54 countries, in addition to the United Nations, the Arab League and the African Union Commission at the World Energy Forum 2012 held in Dubai.

World Energy Day comes at a time when the world is striving to raise awareness on the importance of energy conservation, rationalisation and sustainability. This aims to reduce the impacts of climate change resulting from carbon emissions, to ensure preserving the environment and the sustainability of its resources for generations to come.

Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, is responsible to increase awareness among individuals and organisations, about the need for safer and more appropriate renewable energy sources. Empower encourages the participation of all actors in the global sustainability agenda, to develop and implement binding policies to adopt solutions that contribute to energy efficiency, conserving natural resources and reducing carbon footprint.

One of the main objectives of World Energy Day is to demonstrate the impact of various energy options on overall production and operational processes on the environment. This has been adopted by Empower since its inception by building on green practices such as, efficient, energy-saving and environmentally friendly district cooling solutions. This also supports the objectives of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, to provide 75% of Dubai’s energy needs from clean energy sources and to make Dubai the city with the lowest carbon footprint in the world by 2050.
