Her Excellency Dr Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, Secretary General of Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, stated that World Environment Day 2026 represents an opportunity to renew our commitment to protecting natural resources and biodiversity, while strengthening the resilience of ecosystems in the face of climate change, in line with the UAE’s vision and its commitment to sustainable development.
With sustainability becoming an increasing priority in the F&B industry, particularly through initiatives such as Ne’ma, the UAE’s National Food Loss and Waste Initiative, which aims to halve food loss and waste by 2030, restaurants are increasingly investing in technology that streamlines operations, reduces food waste and improves efficiency without compromising the customer experience.
World Environment Day, observed annually on 5 June and held this year under the theme ‘Now For Climate’, highlights that environmental protection is a strategic necessity closely linked to the future of development, quality of life and the preservation of natural resources for future generations. In this context, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) continues to strengthen its role in supporting local and global efforts to protect the environment through an integrated portfolio of projects and initiatives that reduce carbon emissions, enhance resource efficiency and accelerate the transition towards clean energy and a green economy, in line with the vision of the wise leadership and the UAE’s climate action efforts.
World Environment Day, celebrated every year on June 5, is one of the most important global events dedicated to environmental awareness and action. Established by the United Nations in 1972 during the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, the day serves as a powerful reminder of humanity’s responsibility to protect and preserve the planet for future generations.
