As of today drinking water provided in the guest rooms at Zeavola Resort on Koh Phi Phi is produced in the resort and provided in recyclable glass water bottles.

The Phi Phi Islands are an island group in Thailand, between the large island of Phuket and the West Strait of Malacca coast of the mainland

With this new system, the Zeavola team made a large step forward in the sustainable operation of the resort. The Zeavola Resort is making its own water using a Reverse Osmosis plant. In order to ensure an all year long production, the capacity of the already installed RO system had to be increased. Furthermore, it was necessary to install an additional RO system for a secondary cleaning process, to produce drinking water quality. To complete the process of a bottling plant together with required bottle washing facilities was installed.

Saving up to 95,000 plastic bottles per year

After the process was finished Zeavola waited for another 12 months to ensure that the water quantity and quality would comply with all necessary sustainable requirements. After ensuring a consistent water quality and quantity the big day had finally come and now the water is served in reusable bottles meeting all criteria for a resource-saving operation. With the new system the resort will avoid the usage of about 95,000 plastic bottles per year, which will have a significant impact on the environment and the Phi Phi Island Marine National Park. It is indeed a big step towards a more sustainable operation of the Zeavola Resort.

Future steps include the implementation of further refilling stations for guests as well as in the restaurants and the activity center.

The German Green Pearls GmbH in Darmstadt, Germany unifies international tourism companies that support environmental protection and demonstrate social commitment. Thereby, Green Pearls is the first holding company worldwide that consolidates sustainable hotels, destinations, and restaurants in a global data source.
